Site audit is the process of checking hundreds of parameters in your website to know the actual status of your website before doing the SEO for your website. It is the first step before starting the Search Engine Optimization.
We at California Media LLC have been doing SEO for more than 10 years and we have liked to share the specific niche we follow to bring more traffic through SEO.
In SEO website audit itself we follow 100’s of Google SEO parameters to give you the best results and to rank higher in google.
Some of our core strategy are:
URL Checking for SEO Website Audit
A website may contain from few URLs upto thousands of URLs, before you start working on the SEO check your website URL with some crawling spider tool. You can either try an online crawling tool or we recommend Screaming frog with a free version and a crawl limit of 500 URL.
Make Your Website Secure
Security is one of the most important Google ranking signals. Take a look at your website whether it is secured or not secured. If not make your website secure with the free SSL certificate offered by Lets encrypt.
It will switch your website from http:// to https:// and make sure all of your domain combination refer to your secured link website.
Website Crawling:
Make your website always crawled every time when you make changes.
Save your updated sitemap or crawled URL locally to refer what is reflected for your input. Screaming Frog tool works best to locally analyze.
Check Website Index
Index is like a registry or website URL list, when some people search for a specific keyword immediately Google checks the index and compares to bring the best result.
You can check your website with Google console and make sure all of your website URL are appearing.
Another way to check all of your crawled URL if by typing the site:website
Eg: site:californiamediauae.com
Check Robot Txt
Robot text file in your website is the one which allows or disallows the Google bot to crawl your website. If your website didn’t index by the Google and not appear in the console you may need to check the robot txt file which you may find it in header.php, .htaccess or server files.
Check Page Status
The most important three URL values are 2XX, 3XX and 4XX. You can find the url redirection with the screaming frog tool.
- If you see all URLs are 2XX then you are good to go ahead with your website.
- 3XX denotes some of your webpage redirect to the another URL, make sure it is properly redirected to the live link
- 4XX denotes the link was dead, even though it redirects to high domain authority dead link page I highly recommend to remove the link.
Citation on Local Business
Google local business is one the ranking signal to authorize your business locally. If your website is not listed in Google directory then you can better submit and get approval to get one level ahead.
Check Social Media Status
Social media is considered to be one of the ranking signals to appear top on Google. If you don’t have a social media page, create one and integrate it with your website.
Check the Google Penalties
Google will often penalize your website for getting backlinks from or to unrelated websites.
There are many other reason behind the Google penalty are:
- Buying backlinks from the unknown website.
- Getting Reciprocal links
- Duplicate contents
- Excessive use of H1 tags
- Backlink from or to different language website
- Completely keyword stuffed content without meaning
Check “How to identify Google penalty and recovery” to learn more. You can manually detect the google penalty from Google console.
Check Tags and Meta Descriptions
As we already know, over use of H1 tags leads to penalty so make sure you use the H1 at least once in a page to denote the very important keyword.
For subheading use the H2 and H3 tags spreads over your blog or webpage. Bold the important text and edit the meta description at the recommended level.
Errors and Warnings
Some errors or warnings in your website may lead your website to rank down. Head over to your Google console and make sure there are no warning signs on your website. If you find the warning remove links, content or whatever which give the warning.
Check the Duplicate content
There are thousands of blogs written everyday, so make sure your contents are unique to get top in the Google results. If you copy the content from another website there is a high change google will penalize your website.
Check the copy content with copyscape or even you can track it with the Screaming Frog tool.
Page Speed of the Website
Page speed of your website depends on many factors like your website size, hosting provider capability and script files that are require to load.
Make sure to use CDN as much as you can so it reduce the size of your website and regularly check your website speed with Pingdom, Gtmetrix to get the accurate information of your website speed.
SEO website audit for Backlink
There is no doubt that backlink is one of the major contributors for Google to give a signal for a higher position. Depends upon the number of back link, where the backlink comes from and quality of the link decides the ranking position of the website.
